The Best Baking Shows to Watch on Netflix Right Now

Whether you love baking yourself, or just like watching others brave their sugary challenges, Netflix has no shortage of baking shows to delight and entertain. If you need some inspiration for your next pastry, cake, or dessert—or just want to watch a great baking fail—here are some Netflix baking shows you should definitely binge in 2019.

 The Great British Baking Show

Soothing pastel hues, gorgeous springtime scenery, and a spirit of camaraderie and love have made The Great British Baking Show one of the most popular baking shows in the world. GBBS turned the traditional cooking show model on its head, deviating from years of shows that seemed designed to make aspiring chefs cry. This is a great show to run as background noise while you’re cooking, or simply trying to relax.

Nailed It!

If you love a good baking fail, Nailed It! is the show for you. The zany, laugh-filled series pits amateur bakers against each other as they attempt to re-create edible masterpieces. The baker who makes the best (or at least, the least terrible) recreation takes home a $10,000 prize.

What makes Nailed It! truly great is the fact that the production of the show itself is often as sloppy as the bakes that appear on it. The camera pivots off of the baking stations; guest judges run out for coffee; camera operator Wes is chastised for playing on his phone. It’s a laisser-faire production style that perfectly compliments the chaos happening at the baking stations. On Nailed It! the only rule is that everyone’s having a good time.

Sugar Rush

One of the most challenging things about baking is the time constraints. Netflix’s original series Sugar Rush tests timeliness and efficiency, pitting four teams against each other to make impressive cakes, cookies, cake pops, and other sweets on the clock. When the time’s up, pastry chefs Candace Nelson and Adriano Zumbo critique the teams’ creations and hand out a $10,000 prize. If you want a more exciting, tension-fraught baking show than GBBS, Sugar Rush is for you.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell follows the titular host as she creates haunting and spooky confections, all inside an eerie home filled with Jim Henson-created creatures. It’s basically what would happen if Martha Stewart had the chance to cameo on Dark Shadows. And, unlike any other baking show on Netflix, this one has a narrative plot that runs through its entire season.
