4 Incredible Treats to Try This Halloween!

Now that it’s finally October, the biggest food brands have begun dropping their Halloween menus in earnest. From jet-black ice cream to purple cocktails, here are some of the spookiest treats to try this season.

Coldstone’s Black ‘Boo Batter’ Ice Cream

Cold Stone Creamery took to social media to announce its new seasonal special. “Boo Batter” ice cream will be jet black, and the flavor will be the chain’s classic Cake Batter. Halloween lovers who are truly committed can order the creation in in a black or orange waffle cone or bowl to really bring the theme home. The special edition ice cream will be available throughout the month of October to help kick the season’s festivities up a notch.

Aldi Spooky’s Cheeses

Discount-lovers won’t be left out with Aldi’s new line of seasonal cheeses. The Halloween collection features four festive options, each retailing for $3.99 a piece, and is set to hit shelves on Oct. 16. Cheesy coinosseurs can choose between Scary Pumpkin Spice, a crumbly British cheese infused with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg; No Rest For The Wicked; a similarly-textured cheese made with strawberry and Prosecco; The Freaky Franken, a mild Derby cheese infused with dried sage, giving it the classic green Frankenstein look; and Bat Knit Crazy, a cheddar cheese encased in black wax.

Applebee’s $1 Vampire Cocktail

If you need some alcohol to go with that cheese, Applebees is getting in on the Halloween spirit with its $1 “Vampire” cocktail. The chain says its drink of the month comes in a 10-ounce mug and is made with rum, dragon fruit, passion fruit, and strawberry, garnished with a cherry and a pair of plastic fangs. The “freaky tiki drink”, as Applebee’s rep Patrick Kirk called it, might sound more like something you’d drink at a luau, but its bright purple color certainly makes it look like a Halloween drink. And for $1, we’re not complaining.

Starbucks Witch’s Brew Frappuccino

If you thought Starbucks’ Zombie Frappuccino was scary last year, wait until you see what they have on tap for 2019. The chain’s spooky new concoction, dubbed the Witch’s Brew Frappuccino, is made of an orange crème frappuccino base, dyed purple, and swirled with green “bat warts,” a.k.a chia seeds. Finally, it’s topped with vanilla whipped cream as well as green “lizard scales,” or matcha powder. Coffee addicts beware, however: the specialty drink is totally caffeine-free, although with 53 grams of sugar per drink, you’ll definitely be able to get a sugar high.
